Shakira is dating British actor Lucien Laviscount after falling for the Emily In Paris star while they were starring in her new music video; However, her latest romance has sparked concern among her friends, who fear that the actor is only there for the fame.
Her intimate display in the video for Shakira's song Punteria, in which Lucien, 31, is seen topless caressing the Colombian singer's cheek, sparked speculation that they may have struck up a romance.
Now, inside sources have confirmed that they are together, but not "very involved," much to the relief of friends of Shakira, 47, who reportedly fear he will break her heart.
"Shakira is desperate to fall in love, but her friends are worried because Lucien has been slowly climbing the celebrity ladder while dating women who were all less famous than Shakira," a source told DailyMail.com exclusively.
'The women she has been with are all very different. He is now dating Shakira and she wants love.
'But her friends fear that he just wants people to know her name and she gives it to him. They are seeing each other but they are not very involved yet.
They claimed that she "hasn't gotten over her ex" Gerard Piqué and that everyone around her "knows that Lucien is a rebound."
"She is dating someone who fears that he is a player and is going to burn her," she concluded.
DailyMail.com has contacted representatives for Shakira and Lucien for comment.
Shakira, who shares children Milan, 11, and Sasha, nine, with Gerard, met the British-born star on the set of her video, in which he plays her love interest, in February.
The Hips Don't Lie singer is seen wrapped in her arms, while another scene shows a topless Lucien sprawled across her lap with nothing but a loincloth covering her modesty as she wipes blood from his chest of her after shooting her with an arrow.
Days after the video was posted, the couple was photographed enjoying dinner at Italian restaurant Carbone in New York City.
Shakira wore a black corset and a leather jacket, while Lucien complemented her dressed all in black.
Before the Colombian beauty, Lucien was linked to former Atomic Kitten singer Kerry Katona.
Lucien met Kerry in 2011, when he was 19 and she was 31 on Celebrity Big Brother. They were filmed kissing and hugging on the show and were linked after leaving the house.
Kerry recently addressed reports that she dated Lucien and said OK! magazine: 'Lucien was very charming when I met him in the Celebrity Big Brother house and we had a good time, but he was never officially my boyfriend...'
He was also linked to Little Mix singer Jesy Nelson in November 2021 when they were photographed kissing in the back of a rickshaw in London.
Shakira, who reached a last-minute deal with Spanish prosecutors to avoid jail time for tax fraud last year, was with her ex Gerard for 11 years until their split in the summer of 2022 following rumors that they she was unfaithful to him.
Since then he began a relationship with Clara Chia Martí, 26 years old.
Shakira recently spoke about "rebuilding" her life following her split from the Spanish soccer player and revealed that she channeled her grief into her twelfth studio album, Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran.
"There were so many pieces of my life that fell apart in front of my eyes and I had to rebuild myself somehow, picking up the bones from the ground and putting them all together," she told the Times. "And the glue that held it all together was music."
'For a long time I put my career on hold to be by Gerard's side so he could play football. There was a lot of sacrifice for love.'
The singer came under fire yesterday after she revealed that her children "hated" the Barbie movie because she was "castrating."
"They felt like he was emasculating," she told Allure. And I agree, to a certain extent. I am raising two children. I want them to feel powerful respecting women too.
'I like pop culture when it tries to empower women without depriving men of their ability to be men, to protect and provide too.
"I believe in giving women all the tools and the confidence that we can do everything without losing our essence, without losing our femininity."
Produced by and starring Margot Robbie, Barbie grossed $1.4 billion worldwide and saw Billie Eilish and Finneas O'Connell take home Best Song at this year's Academy Awards for their hit song What Was I Made For.
